Siem Reap / Phom Penh
Day 01 Arrival/Siem Reap (-)
Upon arrival, meet greet by my Cambodian representative at Siem Reap airport, with a tour guide and transfer to hotel for check-in if room is available for early check-in or drop your luggage off, refresh and proceed for sightseeing and tours.
Cambodia, a land of mystical wonders which is home to the world-renowned architectural marvels, Angkor Wat, declared by UNESCO as one of the seven wonders of the world. It has definitely been a very popular destination within South East Asia. A small country filled with amazing culture, scenic spots and a thousand of unfold stories waiting to be told. Enjoy the sights and sounds and immerse yourself in the glory of mighty Khmer empire and hospitality.
Start your tour from the south gate of Angkor Thom or Big Angkor. Big temple meaning (Supreme Being).
It is the last capital of the Angkorian empire. Angkor's greatest temples including his state-temple, Bayon, set at the center of the city.
Have lunch at local restaurant and visit Angkor Wat, the most perfect Khmer temple, built by Suryavarman II and constructed in the form of a massive 'temple-mountain', constructed as a Hindu temple, it has served as a Buddhist temple since Buddhism became Cambodia’s dominant religion in the 14th century.
Do not make your first visit to Angkor Wat in the morning when the backlighting obscures the view, particularly when a first visit, is awesome. To maximize this effect you should make your first visit in optimal lighting conditions, i.e. after 2:00PM.
Next, visit an amazing Ta Prohm temple which is not restored and left to the elements with giant trees embracing of stone works, giving the temple a unique character. This temple was one of Jayavarman VII's first major temple projects, dedicated to his mother.
Preah Khan, built shortly after Ta Prohm in the same general style, was dedicated to Jayavarman VII’s father. Ta Prohm was originally constructed as a Buddhist monastery and was enormously wealthy in its time, boasting of control over 3000 villages, thousands of support staff and vast stores of jewels and gold.
Have dinner at local restaurant. Transfer to hotel. Check in and Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 02 KBal Spean/Banteay Srei (B)
Early morning, before breakfast, proceed to enjoy sunrise view over Angkor Wat and back to hotel for breakfast.
When the sun breaks over the horizon rising behind Angkor Wat, it gives the reflecting pool a silhouette of Angkor’s towers where it appears distinctive shape.
After breakfast, visit Kbal Spean, about 50kms northeast of Siem Reap. Walking up the Kbal Spean hill about 1800m along a passage through the jungle you will get a river and see many lingas elaborately caved on the riverbed. The river is also known as a “River of a Thousand Lingas”. Following the river down, there are some carvings of Vishnu and Shiva with his wife Uma and five-meter high Waterfall.
Stop for lunch at Kbal Spean. After lunch, visit Banteay Srei temple, a tiny temple complex consider by many visitors to be the highest achievement in art and architecture of the Classic Angkor civilization.
Siem Reap and Cambodia is not complete without attending a traditional Cambodian dance performance. During the Angkorian era, dance performances were enjoyed by kings and common people alike. The dances are perhaps better described as 'dance-dramas' as they also convey a story or message. Dinner with nightly traditional/classical dance show at the local restaurant. Transfer to hotel and Overnight in Siem Reap.
Day 03 Siem Reap/Phnom Penh (B)
After breakfast, check out and transfer by private Mini Van for departure to Phnom Penh about 314km (5 hours drive) passing through three provinces, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham and Kandal.
Upon arrival at Phnom Penh, you will be received by our tour guide, transfer to hotel, check-in, refresh and relax.
Have lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, start your city tour of some major sights of Phnom Penh, visit the Royal Palace, established at Phnom Penh in 1866 is a comparatively recent event in the history of the Khmer and Cambodia. The sacred Silver Pagoda, the well known temple of the Emerald Buddha, floored with over 5000 silver tiles each weighing 1 kilo and famous for its 90 kg solid gold Buddha.
Then, explore lively central market, built in 1937 during the French colonial period, in Art Deco style. Enjoy one hour slow boat cruise along Mekong River for sunset view. Discover the diversity of the most exciting river in South East Asia and the cities, towns and temples along its shores. Dinner at local restaurant. Transfer to hotel and Overnight in Phnom Penh.
Day 04 Phnom Penh Visit (B)
After breakfast, proceed to the Independence monument in Phnom Penh was built in the year 1958 in order to commemorate the country's independence from the French regime. It is located right at the intersection of the Sihanouk and the Norodom Boulevards in
the centre of the city. Wat Phnom, the symbol of Phnom Penh set on top of a 27m high tree covered knoll. According to legend, the first pagoda on this site was erected in 1373 to house four statues of Buddha deposited here by the waters of the Mekong river and discovered by a woman named Penh.
Then, visit National Museum with attractive collections of ancient Khmer art - The sandstone sculptures dating from both the Angkorean and pre-Angkorean eras.
Stop for lunch at local restaurant and continue tour, visit the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum, which reveals the painful rule of the Khmer Rouge. (You can avoid this place, it’s painful unless you are curious, otherwise you can spend more time at the Russian market!)
Continue your tour, visit the Toul Tompong or Russian market, where everything is sale. The market itself is great with a lot of bargains for you to haggle over. Dinner at local restaurant. Transfer to hotel and Overnight in Phnom Penh.
Day 05 Phnom Penh/Departure (B)
Early breakfast at hotel, transfer to Phnom Penh International Airport for departure for onward destination.
